2020 activity results summed up at Police Collegium meeting

On Saturday, January 30, a meeting of the Collegium of Police of the Republic of Armenia was held under the chairmanship of Head of Police Vahe Ghazaryan. The meeting was attended by members of the Police Collegium, heads of the central apparatus, general and marz departments, services and territorial divisions. At the meeting, the results of the operational activities of the services and territorial bodies of the RA Police for 2020 were summed up.
At the beginning of the board meeting, those present with a minute of silence honored the memory of their colleagues who died during the hostilities in September-November 2020 and fell in the line of duty.
In his opening remarks, Head of Police Vahe Ghazaryan noted that the problems of the families of police officers who were killed and wounded during the hostilities should always be a prime concern, and they must be solved. He also thanked the officers of Police, in particular those of the Police Troops and the Patrol Regiment, for their conscientious work and high responsibility in a difficult and stressful period.
First Deputy Head of Police Aram Hovhannisyan made a report on the results of the operational-search activities of the services and territorial bodies of the Police for 2020.
It was noted that, despite the overloaded schedule of the entire system due to the epidemic and martial law, the Police carried out their tasks, thanks to the measures taken, the operational situation was under control, a stable public order was maintained and public safety was ensured.
In particular, the total number of crimes registered in the country during the reporting period decreased by 1.4%. Most of the registered cases are cases of small (55.3%) and - and medium-scale gravity (28.2%), which are among the least socially dangerous types of crimes.
For the main types of crimes, the number of cases of deliberate harm to health, including the infliction of grievous harm, crimes against sexual inviolability, theft, burglary, banditry, robbery, and theft of vehicles, has decreased.
Unfortunately, there has been a slight increase in murder, fraud and hooliganism cases.
Last year, 6 cases of human trafficking were registered in the republic, while during the preceding previous year 8 cases of human trafficking had been registered.
In 2020, 1,114 corruption crimes were detected, of which 157 were bribery, 160 were misappropriation committed using their office, 155 were official forgery, 389 were abuse of office and 52 were excess of official powers.
As a result of road safety measures, during the reporting period, the number of road accidents decreased by 783, the number of victims - by 955, while the number of victims increased by 7.
During the year, 1,922 official investigations were carried out against police officers, as a result of which 844 employees were brought to disciplinary sanctions.
The report was followed by a substantive discussion of the issues raised, during which the deputy Heads of the Police made speeches and asked questions about the areas of their coordination. The heads of the relevant services and divisions clarified the issues raised during the speeches.
Summing up the results of the Collegium meeting, Head of Police Vahe Ghazaryan, generally positively assessing the work done during the reporting period, pointed out the existing shortcomings and omissions, gave targeted instructions and orders.
At the end of the board meeting, by the decision of the special Police Commission, Shengavit division of Yerevan City Department and the Artashat divison of Ararat Marz Department of Police were recognized as the best in the operational activities of 2020.
Also, the best titles and awards were granted to employees of various divisions of the Police system.
