On Monday, January 26 the Information and Public Relations Department of Police of the Republic of Armenia hosted a press conference with First Deputy Head of the RA Police, Police Lieutenant General Hunan Poghosyan.
At the news conference Mr. Poghosyan presented the results of Police activities in 2014.
Mr. Poghosyan noted that throughout the year of 2014 Police ensured stable criminal situation in the republic. Mr. Poghosyan informed that as compared to 2013, the number of registered crimes has decreased by 787, however, there has been an increase in the number of especially grave crimes (by 43) and that of grave crimes (by 231).
Along with the increase in the amount of firearms-related crimes, the detection efficiency has also increased, Police took active measures aimed at detecting cases of illegal firearms and ammunition turnover. The decreasing number of crimes committed by juvenile offenders was mentioned as a positive trend.
Moreover, as compared to 2013, there has been a decrease in the number of crimes committed in the sphere of illicit traffic in narcotic drugs, meanwhile, the number of detection of illegal drug trade has increased by 44.
During the 12 months of 2014, 599 corruption-related crimes have been detected, including 66 cases of bribery, 52 of which have been detected by police officers.
Beside the above-mentioned statistics, in his speech Mr. Poghosyan touched upon the ongoing police reforms and presented the results of the reform process.
