On October 21 RA police chief, Lieutenant General Vladimir Gasparyan received Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Director-General of the UN Office in Vienna, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Yury Fedotov.
Greeting the guest, RA police chief was pleased to state that the cooperation between the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and Police of the Republic of Armenia is at a high level at present: certain results are already produced and the exchange of advanced experiance will make the achievements much more obvious.
Vladimir Gasparyan noted that Police of the Republic of Armenia consider fight against illegal drug use and trafficking to be not only a regional, but a transnational crime as well. Thus, its challenges should be counteracted with joint efforts, and, moreover, it is quite important to carry on preventive fight among a broad cross-section of society in different formats. In this context Vladimir Gasparyan attached a great importance to police officers’ periodical visits to high schools throughout all the republic.
During the meeting Vladimir Gasparyan also introduced the curent phase of reforms and transformations which are aimed at modernization of police subdivisions and improving the effectiveness of fight against crime.
Yury Fedotov expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation between the two structures and noted that this interaction will surely improve the effectiveness of fight against illegal drug use and trafficking.
A number of issues of mutual interest were also discussed during the meeting.
