About 50 Iranian citizens recruited and transported to Armenia to be smuggled to the countries of destination: the attempt thwarted by Police

01.09.2020 16:59 Other crimes

As a result of operational-search activities carried out by the employees of the Department for Combating Crimes against Persons an and Property of the General Department of Criminal Police of the Republic of Armenia, information was received that two citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran, fraudulently, recruited 50 citizens of Iran and transported them to Armenia under the pretext for subsequent transportation to European states. In Armenia, they were met by other members of the criminal group, citizens of Armenia. To instill confidence in the victims, the accomplices introduced themselves as employees of the law enforcement and diplomatic spheres. They demanded and received from Iranian citizens, according to preliminary data, about 300 thousand USD for their transportation to target countries. Then some of the Iranian citizens were transported to Turkey and Georgia, from where they were promised to be sent to Europe through the diplomatic missions located in these countries. Not fulfilling their promise, they again brought Iranian citizens to Armenia, took their passports from them, delaying the registration of the transportation under various pretexts.
As a result of the measures taken by the employees of the General Department of Criminal Police and the Central division of Police of the Republic of Armenia, some of these Iranian citizens were identified. They were invited to Police, where they gave testimonies. Members of the criminal group were also identified and detained. As a result of the conducted operational-search measures and investigative actions, part of the passports of Iranian citizens was found.
A criminal case has been initiated on this fact.
Preliminary investigation is underway.
