On Friday, May 22 Head of the Headquarters of Police of the Republic of Armenia, Police Major General Aram Zaqaryan received the delegation led by Mrs. Judith Campbell, Manager of Europe/Eurasia/Central Asia Programs at the Washington office of the U.S. Department of State Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.
Welcoming the guests, Mr. Zaqaryan highlighted the particular importance of the well-established cooperation between Police of the Republic of Armenia and the U.S. Embassy in Armenia, which has yielded tangible results in the sphere of fight against transnational crime in particular and especially in the fields of fight against human trafficking, illicit drug trafficking, as well as that of ensuring the efficient operation of the newly established public order protection unit of “Angels” and introduction of the community policing model in Armenia.
Mrs. Campbell took a particular interest in the ongoing reforms of the RA Police.
Mr. Zaqaryan noted that at present Police are entering into an advanced stage of reforms. Police reform Programme for 2015-2017 is currently being elaborated and will soon be approved.
The positive shift in the public’s attitude towards the Police is significant and appreciable, there is also an improvement in the public confidence in the Police, which evidence that the Police reform strategy is on the right track.
In the framework of the visit of the delegation, a meeting was held in the General Department on Combating Organized Crime during which the work carried out within the scope of the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs program in the spheres of fight against human trafficking, illegal migration and cybercrime were presented by responsible officials.
During the meeting the parties also discussed issues related to further cooperation.
