US Expresses Readiness for Ongoing Cooperation: Vahe Ghazaryan Receives U.S. Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary

On May 16, Vahe Ghazaryan, the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, welcomed a delegation led by James Applegate, U.S. Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary. Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of the United States of America in Yerevan, Armenia Chip Laitinen and Alexis Haftvani, Director of the U.S. Embassy Yerevan's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) also attended the meeting.
Expressing his appreciation, Vahe Ghazaryan commended the longstanding and robust friendly cooperation between the Republic of Armenia and the United States of America. With a history spanning 30 years, this collaboration is founded on shared values of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.
During the meeting, the Minister of Internal Affairs provided an overview of the department's reform process to the visiting delegation. He expressed gratitude to the US government for its investment in the establishment of the patrol service, logistical support, and the provision of high-quality expert assistance in training patrol officers. Of particular note was the emphasis on the joint efforts in combating drug-related issues and fostering law enforcement cooperation.
Vahe Ghazaryan further elaborated on the establishment of the educational complex of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which was built upon the foundations of the water patrol service's educational complex and the police, as well as the Crisis Management Academy base.
The Minister of Internal Affairs reaffirmed his commitment to successfully completing the ongoing reforms. This endeavor aims to develop a specialized, technologically equipped, well-disciplined, and reputable police force capable of addressing modern challenges. Additionally, it seeks to ensure the effective functioning of the newly established Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Expressing gratitude for the warm reception, James Applegate congratulated Vahe Ghazaryan on his appointment and extended his well wishes for success. He positively acknowledged the ongoing reforms within the Ministry of Internal Affairs police and expressed a desire to continue the collaboration.
The US Deputy Assistant Secretary emphasized the significance of training patrols and their interaction with civil society.
During the meeting, various other matters were discussed, including the reception of the patrol service, the inclusion of the last four marzes, the promotion of women's participation within the unit, equipment usage, weapons, certification, and the training of police officers.
