STATEMENT OF POLICE OF THE REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA

Yesterday a group of people gathered in Yerevan's Freedom Square announced their intention to march towards Khorenatsi street, which remains blocked in connection with the armed attack on the building of a regiment of the Police Patrol Service and hostage situation in the morning of July 17.
Simultaneously, the meeting participants tried to present ultimatums to the the Police and other law enforcement authorities, demanding specific actions or non-implementation of the powers granted to them by law.
Armenian Police states that since the very morning of July 17 an anti-terrorist operation has been conducted on Khorenatsi street by the special units of the competent law enforcement authorities.
Out of public safety considerations the free movement of civilians and vehicles has been limited in this area of Yerevan city, these restrictions will remain in effect until another decision is made by the competent authorities conditioned by the given situation.
Police calls upon the meeting participants to refrain from adventurism and organizing marches towards the specially protected area and not to create additional difficulties for law enforcement bodies.
Simultaneously, Police is warning that in case of disobedience to these appeals and warnings, as well as hindering law enforcement agencies from conducting the anti-terrorist operation, the offenders will face appropriate measures envisaged by the legislation.
